System Product Design Engineer

Apple•Cupertino, CA
•$173,540 - $225,300

About The Position

Apple Inc. is hiring a System Product Design Engineer for work in Cupertino, California, and various unanticipated locations throughout the USA. The role works across technical and operations disciplines and cross-functional teams to define engineering requirements and resolve design challenges involved in integrating key technologies into the iPhone. The engineer designs, engineers, and validates concepts, parts, and solutions using 3D CAD tools, including Siemens NX. The role applies design for manufacturability and assembly, statistical analysis, process control theory, tolerance and production capability, functional dimensioning, and geometric tolerancing. It also involves collaborating with overseas manufacturers to ensure parts can be mass-produced using metal, plastic, and brittle-component manufacturing processes. The position analyzes structural and functional robustness using finite element analysis and statistical tools, develops material-based solutions for mass production throughout the product lifecycle, and conducts failure analysis and root-cause investigations. The engineer synthesizes complex design details and large datasets into clear visual summaries, conducts failure analysis using industrial computational topographic X-ray scanners and scanning electron microscopes, and leads end-to-end design and engineering integration of a complex iPhone subsystem that typically includes multiple customer-facing features. The role creates mechanical technical drawings and testing specifications. The position requires 20% international travel and a 40-hour workweek. The listed base pay range is $173,540–$225,300 per year, depending on skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Requirements
