About The Position

As a System Operator- Balancing Authority and Unit Dispatch, you will be part of a close-knit team at MISO, impacting over 45 million people by helping ensure they have electricity. This role involves two critical functions: Balancing Authority and Unit Dispatch. As a Balancing Authority Operator, you will be responsible for the real-time balance of load and generation within the MISO footprint, monitoring Area Control Error (ACE). As a Unit Dispatch operator, you will manage the security-constrained economic dispatch system that drives the generation fleet in MISO. Success in this role, within one year, is measured by the successful completion of the training and certification programs. Once certified, continued reliable and efficient operations within MISO Operations will be key. MISO manages the electricity superhighway in the Central U.S., utilizing groundbreaking research and advanced technology to ensure reliable power flow to 45 million people. The dedicated team operates the electricity grid, runs a robust energy market, and plans for the future daily.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 4 years of related experience in the energy or operations industry
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field (Educational equivalency may be established with a combination of education, training, certifications and directly related experience)
  • A current NERC/RC Certification
  • Strong communication skills
  • Successful completion of the Unit Dispatch and Balancing Authority Certifications and Board exams (once on the job)
  • Ability to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in one of the following areas: energy industry, balancing authority, generation system dispatch, transmission system operations, merchant operations, generation operational planning, gas operations, engineering or power accounting

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the real time balance of load and generation in the MISO footprint monitoring Area Control Error (ACE)
  • Responsible for security constrained economic dispatch system that drives the generation fleet in MISO
  • Ensure reliable, efficient, and compliant execution of MISO’s Balancing and Dispatch (BA) functions
