About The Position

Allina Health is seeking an experienced, visionary physician leader to join our team as System Medical Director for Senior Health and System Geriatrics. This role provides strategic and operational leadership for senior health services across our integrated healthcare system while maintaining focus on administration in the geriatric medical practice, as well as a clinical practice focused on delivering exceptional patient-centered care. As System Medical Director, you will collaborate with physicians, advanced practice clinicians, operational leaders, and multidisciplinary care teams to advance quality, safety, patient experience, and clinical outcomes for older adults. You will play a critical role in shaping the future of geriatric care delivery across Allina Health while helping patients achieve their best possible health and well-being.

Requirements

  • Doctoral/Ph.D. level advanced degree in Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or foreign equivalent from an approved school of medicine
  • Completed a residency program as applicable to their clinical specialty
  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience in designated specialty preferred
  • Licensed Physician - MN Board of Medical Practice required upon hire
  • ACLS-BLS Tier 3 - Multisource required within 180 Days
  • Licensed Physician - WI required upon hire
  • Drug Enforcement Agency Certificate required upon hire
  • Prescription Monitoring Program required upon hire
  • National Provider Identifier required upon hire

  • Completion of ACGME-accredited Fellowship in Geriatric Medicine

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for direct patient care by reviewing patient's medical history while collecting, prioritizing, and synthesizing comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
  • Provides education, consultation or intervention to patients (treatment plan) and their families.
  • Monitors activities related to the delivery of medical care and clinical services across sites or in the clinical service line, and will facilitate communication between physicians, site administration and employees.
  • Key areas of focus include oversight of committee meetings, leading efforts to achieve quality measure goals, and to improve the quality of patient care and patient experience.
  • Manages physician staff and manages budget for clinical service lines or across sites.
  • Medical Leadership in Clinical Service Line or Across Locations.
  • Monitors activities related to the delivery of medical care and clinical services in the clinical service line or across sites.
  • Facilitates communication between physicians, site administration and employees.
  • Manages oversight of department committees.
  • Leads efforts to achieve quality goals and improve the quality of patient care and patient experience.
  • Oversees the management of physicians across locations, including performance management, staffing, evaluation, and hiring decisions.
  • Conducts orientation for new physicians, and ongoing education for physicians.
  • Partners with organization leadership to coordinate various teams to execute policies and agendas.
  • Manages budget and financial performance for the physician services.
  • May guide other physicians in their patient treatment decisions.
  • May participate in additional medical staff committees, and system committees and initiatives.
  • May provide input into hiring and promotion decisions for unit staff.
  • May conduct education for physicians and staff.
  • Direct Patient Care.

  • Evaluates, interprets, and coordinates information to make decisions and recommendations regarding patient care.
  • Provides education, consultation or intervention to patients (treatment plan) and their families.
  • Works collaboratively with patients to improve their health and well-being.
  • Practices in a thoughtful manner including consideration for cultural diversity, individual autonomy and legal responsibilities.
  • Charts in electronic format in accordance with licensure and scope.
  • Actively participates in multidisciplinary team approach to case management.
  • May provide care in an ambulatory clinic, inpatient or outpatient hospital setting.
  • May participate in on-call rotation.
  • Quality.
  • Utilizes quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or work flows.
  • May participate in peer review and quality assurance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
