About The Position

Ford Motor Company is hiring a System Integration Engineer in Body Controls for its Product Development team in Dearborn, Michigan. This is a hybrid position, with work performed both from home and at the Dearborn worksite; employees must live within a reasonable commuting distance. Domestic travel of up to 10% is required. The engineer will design and implement scalable embedded software architectures in C for bare-metal and RTOS-based systems. The role includes optimizing memory use, execution speed, and power efficiency; enforcing coding standards such as MISRA C or CERT C through static analysis and code reviews; and debugging firmware with hardware tools. The engineer will translate system requirements into software requirements, develop control algorithms in MATLAB/Simulink and oversee integration of generated C code, and author system requirements and Software Design Documents. Responsibilities also include ensuring code traceability to functional requirements, leading integration testing, developing unit and integration tests, and validating software in hardware- and model-in-the-loop environments. The role uses GitHub for version control and CI/CD workflows and Jira for development tracking. Candidates must have a bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Electronic Engineering or a related field, plus five years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in the offered role or a related occupation. The posting specifies five years of experience for several Model Based Design, requirements, MATLAB/Simulink, testing, GitHub, and Jama competencies, and three years for specified Simulink Test, coverage analysis, and Jira competencies. Ford lists a salary range of $147,077.00–$192,850.08 per year and offers medical, dental, and prescription coverage; family-care and parental-leave programs; employee and family vehicle discounts; tuition assistance; employee resource groups; paid community-service time; paid holidays; and paid time off with an option to purchase additional vacation time.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Electronic Engineering or a related field.
  • Five years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or a related occupation.
  • Five years of experience using a full software development lifecycle with a Model Based Design (MBD) methodology.
  • Five years of experience deriving software requirements and architectural logic from system specifications using tools including Jama and Jira.
  • Five years of experience implementing control algorithms with MATLAB, Simulink, and Stateflow models and integrating them with embedded code.
  • Five years of experience creating unit tests and performing structural coverage analysis in Simulink Test.
  • Five years of experience integrating software components and conducting MIL regression testing.
  • Five years of experience using GitHub for version control and lifecycle management of software deliverables, including MATLAB models, data files, and functional specifications.
  • Five years of experience analyzing system-level requirements to define and finalize subsystem specifications.
  • Five years of experience managing requirements in Jama to maintain documentation and bidirectional traceability throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Three years of experience authoring and executing unit test suites in Simulink Test to validate model behavior against requirements.
  • Three years of experience using Simulink Coverage for structural analysis, including decision, condition, and MC/DC coverage.
  • Three years of experience using Jira to track daily tasks, manage requirements, and oversee test-case execution and project milestones.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable embedded software architectures in C for bare-metal and RTOS-based environments.
  • Manage stack and heap constraints and optimize code for execution speed and power efficiency on resource-constrained microcontrollers.
  • Enforce standards such as MISRA C or CERT C using static analysis and manual code reviews.
  • Debug firmware with logic analyzers, oscilloscopes, and JTAG/SWD debuggers to verify software interaction with the PCB.
  • Analyze system requirements and convert them into software-level requirements and subsystem specifications.
  • Develop control algorithms in MATLAB/Simulink and oversee integration of auto-generated C code into manually written software.
  • Author system requirements and Software Design Documents, maintaining traceability between code and functional requirements.
  • Lead integration testing and develop unit and integration test suites for validation in HIL environments.
  • Conduct MIL regression testing and validate software component integration and system-level performance.
  • Use GitHub for version control and software lifecycle management, including CI/CD integration.
  • Use Jira to track development sprints, tasks, bug reports, requirements, and test execution.
  • Manage requirements and bidirectional traceability in Jama.
  • Perform Simulink Test unit testing and Simulink Coverage structural analysis, including decision, condition, and MC/DC coverage.
  • Travel domestically up to 10%.

Benefits

  • Immediate medical, dental, and prescription drug coverage.
  • Flexible family care, parental leave, new-parent ramp-up programs, and subsidized backup child care.
  • Vehicle discount program for employees and family members, and management leases.
  • Tuition assistance.
  • Employee resource groups.
  • Paid time off for individual and team community service.
  • Paid holidays, including the week between Christmas and New Year's Day.
  • Paid time off and the option to purchase additional vacation time.
