Advanced Step Apprentice (2nd step or Higher) or Journeyman System Field Technician - Maple Grove, MN
About The Position
Xcel Energy is seeking one or more Advanced Step (2nd step or higher) Apprentice or Journeyman System Field Technicians to be located at our Maple Grove Service Center in Maple Grove, Minnesota. This position will be posted from October 1, 2026, to October 14, 2026. The applicant will be required to maintain Substation and Generating plant equipment in the five-state area. The four-year apprenticeship will require Advanced Step Apprentice System Field Technician(s) to attain the necessary skills and qualifications to meet the Journeyman classification position. He/She will be required to have knowledge of all test equipment used by the SFT's today and in the future. This position involves both mechanical and electrical skills.
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Computer experience & proficiency
- Totally committed to safety, quality work, and customer service
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Proper Color perception
- Obtain a Class A CDL driver's license with Hazardous Endorsement
- Will be required to work overtime and out of town assignments
- Ability to work independently and with limited supervision
- Must be comfortable working at heights up to 75 ft. and in confined spaces
- Must work well with others and exhibit teamwork attitude
- Must meet DOT and Nuclear requirements
- Eligible candidates must have Station 1 and Station 2 electrician courses completed or an equivalent for the 5th step level apprentice.

Responsibilities
