About The Position

The System Engineer with Electronics & Functional Safety Emphasis directs and participates in the design and development of complex engineering projects related to machine development. The role helps ensure products provide superior customer value in features, performance, durability, and quality, while considering cost, manufacturing, velocity, and serviceability. The position is part of Cat Technology, which collaborates across Caterpillar to advance technologies such as autonomy, automation, innovation, research and development, manufacturing automation, and advanced materials. The role creates earthmoving and paving machine control system designs; supports system architectures, product design, and verification; and helps decompose system and safety requirements into subsystem requirements. It also supports electronics hardware selection and design, defines machine control networks and communication interfaces, and contributes to product safety concepts, architectures, lifecycle activities, and safety assessments. The engineer provides technical leadership, resolves complex technical problems, and mentors junior engineers and technicians. The position is onsite five days a week and is based in Mossville, Illinois, or Dayton, Ohio. Travel is up to 30% domestically and internationally. Domestic U.S. relocation assistance and visa sponsorship for eligible applicants are available.
