About The Position

The System Engineer reports to the MSTP Project Manager and receives work direction derivatives from the Communications and Information Systems Lead. This role involves maintaining MSTP server, virtualization, and enterprise system environments, and engineering, integrating, and troubleshooting system components including servers, operating systems (Windows/Linux), storage solutions, virtualization platforms, and related services. The position requires developing, updating, and maintaining system installation guides, configuration standards, operating procedures, and training materials. It also includes conducting system testing, evaluation, and validation to ensure readiness for exercises, wargames, and operational events, as well as identifying and resolving system failures or degradations. The System Engineer will maintain system-level boundary defense and security configurations in coordination with cybersecurity personnel, create and maintain system architecture diagrams, logical/physical configuration documentation, and systems-level dashboards/reports. Support for cross-boundary system integration and management of work tasks through the Marine Corps ERIS (Remedy) system are also key responsibilities. The role involves performing pre-event system checks, lifecycle maintenance, software updates, patches, and configuration changes, as well as assisting with system log monitoring, security alerts, and compliance requirements. Collaboration with network engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and CIS leadership is essential to ensure system configurations align with MSTP exercise requirements.

Requirements

  • IAT Level II: Baseline Certification - IAW DoD 8140.01 required (CCNA Security, CySA+, GICSP, GSEC, Security+ CE, SSCP)
  • A minimum of one valid Computing Environment (CE)/Operating System (OS) Certificate (i.e. MS Windows Server 2012 R2 Cert, MS Windows 10 cert, a VMware 6.0 Cert)
  • At least 3 years in IA technology or a related area.
  • Must possess and maintain training and certifications sufficient to be granted privileged access to Marine Corps information technology (IT) and information systems (IS)
  • At least five years of experience in IT, which should include successful experience as an enterprise team member or lead.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Project, and SharePoint.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Able to design and write clear communications and present training programs.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, problem-solving, prioritization, interpersonal skills, and able to instinctively adapt, plan, inform and influence.
  • Required to sit for extended periods of time and maintain focus
  • Qualification as an authorized company driver is required.
  • All authorized company drivers must have a valid driver’s license, current automobile insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to the company’s auto insurance provider.
  • A Secret security clearance is required for this position.
  • This position also requires a completed Personnel Security Investigation that will qualify the incumbent to be eligible for access to at least the TS-SCI level, and the individual must be read-in for NATO level access.

  • Preferred level of certifications and experience include: MCSE: Core Infrastructure, MCSA: Windows Server 2016
  • Certification and expert knowledge experience support Windows and Linux virtualization in VMware technologies, ESXi on VMware vSphere v6.7/v6.5/v6.0/v5.5, vCenter, and MS PowerShell automation
  • MEF level operational military experience in communications with prior experience at the field grade level (0602, 0603, 0699) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain MSTP server, virtualization, and enterprise system environments.
  • Engineer, integrate, and troubleshoot system components including servers, operating systems (Windows/Linux), storage solutions, virtualization platforms, and related services.
  • Develop, update, and maintain system installation guides, configuration standards, operating procedures, and training materials for MSTP systems.
  • Conduct system testing, evaluation, and validation to ensure readiness for exercises, wargames, and operational events, and identify and resolve system failures or degradations.
  • Maintain system-level boundary defense and security configurations (e.g., host-based firewalls, system hardening, auditing settings) in coordination with cybersecurity personnel.
  • Create and maintain system architecture diagrams, logical/physical configuration documentation, and systems‑level dashboards/reports.
  • Support cross‑boundary system integration for connecting training, simulation, or coalition systems operating at different security enclaves.
  • Manage and document work tasks through the Marine Corps ERIS (Remedy) system.
  • Perform pre‑event system checks, lifecycle maintenance, software updates, patches, and configuration changes to ensure readiness for MSTP events.
  • Assist with system log monitoring, security alerts, and compliance requirements in support of IA and cybersecurity teams (not as primary IA lead).
  • Collaborate with network engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and CIS leadership to ensure system configurations align with MSTP exercise requirements.
