About The Position

The intent of the System Engineer Intern is to provide leadership skills for some of the DHMSM software engineers and an opportunity for to gain some experience working with the government, learn what it is like to be a Software Systems Analyst/Programmer/Engineer, and help DHMSM grow with future engineers. LPDH Connections The DHMSM program provides modernization of Electronic Health Records (EHR) capabilities for the Department of Defense. Leidos is seeking a System Engineer Intern to work onsite/offsite supporting DHMSM. The DHMSM program provides modernization of Electronic Health Record (EHR) capabilities for the Department of Defense. The Leidos Partnership for Defense Health (LPDH) is seeking a candidate for the operation engineering team to support several projects for the MHS GENESIS DoD EHR system. This individual will understand how one of the operations engineering team operates for this program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field of study.
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain an ADP IT-III Public Trust Clearance based on the minimum of a Tier 3 investigation. Federal Government requirement.
  • Basic proficiency of Microsoft Office365 (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential for collaborating with team members and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate the ability to approach problems systematically and find solutions.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Be open to learning new technologies and adapting to changing project requirements, ability to work effectively in a team environment and demonstrate a proactive and self-motivated approach to learning and contributing.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic Programming Skills: Demonstrate proficiency in at least one programming language, such as Java, Python, C++, or JavaScript. As well as having the ability to identify and fix bugs and perform unit testing and quality assurance.
  • Data Structures and Algorithms: Have a foundational understanding of data structures and algorithms, which are essential for efficient problem-solving. Familiarity with database concepts and SQL is helpful, especially for backend development.
  • Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC): Familiarity with the SDLC, including planning, design, development, testing, and deployment, is beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Completing all required training: Leidos and DHMSM courses
  • Updating system access: Leidos (LPDH) (Application); Cerner Remedy; SDLC Next; AVHE and Service Now
  • Inservice: Rhapsody Overview, Daily Interface Connection Support; Cerner Remedy; SDLC Next; Service Now and Leidos (LPDH) Applications
  • Working on Cameo or approved network diagram software to update all non-production systems (because of the system access requirements, this is currently the best project to work on).
  • Update interface connection (non-CUI (controlled unclassified information)).
  • Update existing network diagram(s) developed in Cameo or transition to new software.
  • Update current software system contact and method of communications
  • Creating and updating Operations Policy and Procedure Library (focusing on the transition from wave deployment to sustainment/projects).
  • Develop algorithms to discover new data dependencies and insights without identifying people.
  • Focus on building a front-end tool to access the PPSM database.
  • Develop documentation (Standard Operating Procedure or End User Guide) for the front-end tool.
  • Assist with PPSM data import of the new PPSMs not submitted in the database
  • Organize PPSM working folders to archive documents that are no longer in use.
  • Document Intern experience.
  • Provide turnover of all project activities
