About The Position

As a System Design & Failure Analysis Engineer, you'll investigate complex electronic failures, work with cutting-edge hardware, and help improve the next generation of enterprise HDDs. If you enjoy solving difficult technical problems, working hands-on in the lab, and learning how complex systems work, this role is for you. No prior HDD experience? No problem. You'll receive a structured six-month onboarding program designed to build deep expertise in enterprise storage technology.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or ECE, or related disciplines.
  • Right to work in the US without requiring Western Digital to commence or sponsor an immigration case in order to employ you at any point in the future.
  • Experience with Python and Linux
  • Familiarity with C++
  • Understanding of electronics fundamentals, circuit analysis, and PCB concepts
  • Experience using electronic lab equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, signal generator, or similar)
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn complex technologies

Nice To Haves

  • Embedded systems knowledge (ARM, SATA, SAS, PCIe, DDR)
  • Experience with Python automation or Linux scripting
  • Circuit design or PCB analysis experience
  • Robotics, mechatronics, or multidisciplinary hardware experience
  • Exposure to firmware debugging or embedded software

Responsibilities

  • Investigate electronic failures across manufacturing, qualification testing, and customer environments
  • Identify root causes using structured troubleshooting and system-level analysis
  • Help integrate new electronics into enterprise HDD products
  • Use lab equipment including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, signal generators, and firmware debug tools
  • Write Python scripts and work in Linux to automate analysis and testing
  • Collaborate with firmware, SoC, manufacturing, mechanical, servo, and customer engineering teams
  • Share technical findings that influence product improvements and future drive designs
