System Debug Lead Engineer

NVIDIA•Santa Clara, CA
•$168,000 - $322,000

About The Position

NVIDIA is seeking an experienced System Debug Lead Engineer to perform root cause analysis and resolve complex issues across server and data center platforms. The work spans electrical, mechanical, thermal, and firmware components, and calls for a multidisciplinary approach to system-level problem-solving in a collaborative environment. The role leads cross-functional debugging of critical system issues observed during validation, production, or in-field operation. It develops and runs tests and experiments to identify and recreate intricate failures, creates tools and automation to speed debugging, and works with engineering, firmware, manufacturing, supplier, and contract manufacturing teams to validate fixes and drive corrective and preventive actions. The engineer also documents procedures, findings, and mitigation plans, and provides technical guidance to cross-functional teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in system-level debugging in data center/server or similar hardware platforms.
  • Deep understanding of system architecture, including CPUs, memory, high-speed I/Os, power delivery, thermal management, and firmware.
  • Proven experience debugging electrical issues such as signal integrity and power integrity; thermal issues such as airflow and cooling design; and firmware anomalies such as BIOS/UEFI and BMC.
  • Proficiency with tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and firmware debugging equipment/utilities.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work across fields and teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with contract manufacturers and suppliers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead cross-functional debugging of critical system-level issues across hardware and firmware domains.
  • Perform hands-on root cause analysis of failures observed during system validation, production, or in-field operation.
  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and thermal engineers, firmware developers, and manufacturing teams to develop and validate fixes.
  • Develop and implement detailed tests and experiments to identify and recreate intricate issues.
  • Develop tools, scripts, and automation to accelerate debugging workflows.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to cross-functional teams.
  • Document debugging procedures, findings, and mitigation plans clearly and concisely.
  • Drive corrective and preventive action processes with suppliers and internal teams.
