System Architect (ER)

Spatial FrontArlington, VA

About The Position

Spatial Front, Inc. (SFI), a two-time USAToday Top Workplaces awardee and Washington Top Workplaces honoree, is seeking a System Architect (ER) to support our growing team. The System Architect will define and guide the technical architecture for the shared services, platform capabilities, integration patterns, and non-functional foundations that enable multiple Agile Release Trains (ARTs) to deliver securely, reliably, and at scale. Unlike architects aligned to a single business domain, this role is responsible for the cross-cutting architecture that supports environment management, DevSecOps, application security, production readiness, business intelligence, integration frameworks, test enablement, and modernization planning across the broader ecosystem. This role operates in a complex government environment spanning PeopleSoft-based enterprise platforms, Oracle technologies, shared integration services, reporting and analytics platforms, DevSecOps toolchains, and security/compliance controls across NIPRNET and SIPRNET. The System Architect will work across Enabling Rail teams, other ARTs, Government stakeholders, and partner vendors to establish architecture standards, guide technical decisions, reduce integration risk, and maintain an architecture runway that supports both current sustainment and future modernization, including cloud migration and expanded automation. As a valued member of the SFI team, you will play a critical role in delivering mission-critical capabilities to our Federal Government customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in system architecture, solution architecture, or technical architecture roles.
  • 5+ years of experience supporting enterprise systems, distributed platforms, or large-scale integration environments.
  • Demonstrated expertise in system design patterns, integration architecture, data architecture, performance/scalability design, resiliency, and security-conscious technical design.
  • Experience developing architecture artifacts and guiding engineering teams through architecture implementation and technical governance.
  • Experience with enterprise integration methods including APIs, middleware, data replication, messaging/event-driven patterns, and interface standardization.
  • Experience working with complex multi-team delivery environments where architecture must support both product delivery and enterprise operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with engineers, program leaders, Government stakeholders, and external vendors.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must possess an active Secret security clearance or be able to obtain one.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting DoD, Army, or other federal mission systems with strong security, compliance, and audit requirements.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Oracle-based enterprise platforms, and supporting technologies commonly found in large ERP/HCM/payroll ecosystems.
  • Familiarity with architecture and operations involving Oracle OAM/OIM/OUD, Oracle Database, Data Guard, GoldenGate, OAS/OAP, Elasticsearch/Kibana, Splunk, Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, Kafka, ESB, F5, and Solaris-based environments.
  • Experience architecting systems in environments that span development, test, training, staging, and production with formal release and change control processes.
  • Experience supporting DevSecOps architecture, CI/CD design, automated testing integration, and production promotion controls.
  • Familiarity with DoDAF, FEAF, TOGAF, or similar architecture frameworks.
  • Experience working in environments subject to RMF, STIG, ATO, FISMA, NIST SP 800-53, and audit/compliance evidence requirements.
  • Experience with NIPRNET/SIPRNET or similarly segregated secure environments.
  • Exposure to OCI/cloud migration, hybrid architecture, and phased modernization strategies.
  • Relevant certifications such as TOGAF, SAFe Architect, AWS/Azure/OCI Solutions Architect, Security+, or comparable architecture credentials are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Define and maintain the system architecture and technical runway for the Enabling Rail, covering shared services, integration patterns, environment strategy, non-functional requirements, and modernization direction.
  • Develop and maintain architecture artifacts such as logical and physical architecture diagrams, integration patterns, interface control documents, data flow diagrams, environment topology diagrams, and technical standards.
  • Provide architectural leadership for cross-cutting capabilities supporting DevSecOps, application security, environment management, release coordination, automated testing, reporting/analytics, and enterprise integrations.
  • Establish and govern architecture patterns for APIs, event/data exchange, middleware, replication, observability, and secure service interoperability across multiple ARTs and vendors.
  • Guide technical design decisions involving PeopleSoft, Oracle platforms, Oracle Database, middleware, reporting solutions, and enterprise integration technologies.
  • Define and review architecture approaches for systems and tools such as Oracle OAM/OIM/OUD, Oracle Database 19c, Oracle Data Guard, Oracle GoldenGate, Oracle Analytics Server, Oracle Analytics Publisher, Elasticsearch, Kibana, Splunk, Azure DevOps, ServiceNow, Kafka, ESB, F5, and related enterprise platforms, as applicable to the solution.
  • Support architecture planning for hybrid/on-prem to cloud transition, including sustainment of legacy environments and alignment to OCI migration or other Government-directed modernization roadmaps.
  • Ensure architecture decisions account for high availability, resiliency, performance, scalability, observability, disaster recovery, supportability, and auditability.
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management, the Release Train Engineer, System Owners, DevOps, SRE, Release Management, AppSec, BI, and Test teams to ensure architecture aligns to delivery priorities and operational realities.
  • Lead or support design reviews, architecture boards, and technical governance forums, providing direction to engineering teams and ensuring adherence to approved patterns and standards.
  • Define integration and security architecture considerations for operations across NIPRNET and SIPRNET, including boundary protection, data segregation, logging, and controlled information sharing.
  • Support application and platform architecture decisions in compliance with RMF, STIG, SRG, FISMA, NIST, audit, and ATO requirements.
  • Partner with BI and integration teams to ensure data architecture supports authoritative reporting, performance optimization, data consistency, replication strategy, and auditable analytics.
  • Support multi-vendor integration by standardizing architecture guidance, technical baselines, configuration patterns, and interface expectations.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, tools, and patterns for suitability within the Army environment, balancing modernization goals with operational stability and compliance constraints.
  • Contribute to technical risk management, dependency management, and long-range roadmap planning for Enabling Rail and the broader Solution Train.
  • Other duties as assigned.
