About The Position

The Symphony on the Prairie PIC (person in change) supervises the smooth operations of Symphony on the Prairie volunteers while providing the highest quality customer service to guests of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and Conner Prairie.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to drive a golf cart and communicate via two-way radio required.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less), distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more), color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors), peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point), depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships), and the ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is exposed to working in wet or humid conditions (non-weather), and outdoor weather conditions.
  • This role regularly operates a golf cart or other Conner Prairie utility vehicle; thus a valid driver’s license is required.

Responsibilities

  • Wears a two-way radio at all times and focuses on providing the best guest experience.
  • Manages the volunteer check-in process to include distribution of CP radios, safety vests, and other equipment as needed.
  • Checks in and supervises wagon pullers from Scout and other community youth organizations.
  • Listens to all CP radio traffic and communicates information to the Volunteers in a timely manner.
  • Checks in with volunteer Golf Cart Drivers and Tractor Drivers throughout the evening.
  • Works collaboratively with the SOTP Assistant PIC to ensure all volunteers understand their roles, remain at their post and engaged, and are sufficiently hydrated throughout the evening.
  • Reports any emergency situations to EMT on duty and/or Events Facilities Manager.
  • Manages golf cart lines at the end of each concert.
  • Communicates any repairs or maintenance needed to the Events Facilities Manager via radio and/or written communication no later than the end of each shift.
  • Deposits tip money into safe at end of each shift.
  • Works collaboratively with the Adult Volunteer Staff to resolve any supply needs or communicate needed volunteer redirection/retraining.
  • Willingly works a non-traditional schedule of evenings and weekends throughout the summer.
