About The Position

The Senior Shop Switchgear Technician serves as the technical leader within the manufacturing and assembly environment, responsible for the assembly, wiring, modification, testing, troubleshooting, and quality verification of low-voltage and medium-voltage switchgear, switchboards, motor control centers (MCCs), and custom electrical distribution equipment. This position provides hands-on leadership, supports production efficiency, and ensures all work is completed in compliance with applicable safety, quality, and industry standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with switchgear or industrial electrical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Prior leadership or lead technician experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical degree or trade certification.
  • UL 508A and/or UL 698A certification experience.
  • Familiarity with PLCs and VFDs.
  • Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the assembly, wiring, modification, testing, inspection, and commissioning preparation of switchgear and related electrical equipment.
  • Interpret and apply electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and mechanical issues efficiently.
  • Coordinate workflow and provide guidance to technicians.
  • Perform and oversee quality inspections and testing procedures.
  • Train, mentor, and develop junior technicians.
  • Ensure compliance with UL, NEC, and company quality standards.
  • Support production planning and project scheduling.
  • Promote and enforce safe work practices including PPE and Lockout/Tagout.
