About The Position

The Swiss CNC Operator-II performs all tasks, roles and responsibilities of the Swiss CNC Operator-I in addition to setting up and operating computer numerical control (CNC) machines, including CNC Swiss style (sliding headstock) lathes, CNC lathes, CNC milling machines, etc. This role involves setting up simple to complex jobs to machine small diameter, close tolerance parts, including pointed parts, following standard operating procedures and instructions. The operator will also set up and operate secondary equipment and perform other necessary functions within the department.

Nice To Haves

3 to 5 years’ experience in a small device manufacturing environment as a CNC Machining Operator/setup Operator is preferred.
Experience operating Citizen, Star, Tsugami CNC Swiss lathes desired or other CNC Turning Centers or CNC equipment.
Experience in medical device manufacturing, aerospace, machinery, and metals are desired.
Graduate of a vocational school in manufacturing/machining or engineering discipline is a plus.

Responsibilities

Reviews setup sheet & specs determining setup procedure, machining sequence, dimensions of finished workpiece.
Loads control media to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from data base.
Works from procedures & prescribed sequences to achieve parts per print and quality specifications.
Attaches fixtures and tooling to machine bed and positions securely according to setup instructions, using clamps, bolts, hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments, such as ruler and caliper.
Ensures workpiece is being properly lubricated and cooled; coolant lines properly located.
Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point.
Monitors machine operation detecting malfunctions, such as worn/damaged cutting tools.
Troubleshoots problems, makes minor adjustments to achieve quality output.
Makes adjustments to tooling, machines and/or part programs.
Engages supervisor or lead person if process/program require adjustments beyond minor adjustments.
Performs 1st piece & In-process inspections for self and peers as needed using appropriate measurement tools & methods.
Records measurements per inspection plans, methods indicated.
Monitors for trends and adjusts as required to maintain specifications and minimize variation. Maintains specifications as defined on drawing and/or routing.
Communicates with co-workers, members of other shifts, technical leader, team leader and/or supervisor to transfer and receive instructions and information.
Assists with prove-outs and suggestions to improve processes as well as processes that are unproven.
Adjusts machine feed and speed and changes cutters to machine parts to specs.
Suggests improvements to existing methods of CNC machining operation.
