About The Position

This role involves setting up and operating Swiss and Lathe machines to produce machined parts. The operator will be responsible for loading materials, unloading finished parts, deburring, performing daily maintenance and housekeeping, and adjusting machine offsets. A key part of the role is setting up jobs, which includes installing fixtures, aligning cutting tools, retrieving and downloading CNC programs, establishing machining offsets, and monitoring machine operation to ensure parts are within specification. The operator will also be involved in identifying and managing tool wear, building tooling, and reading CNC programs line-by-line. Manual inspection using various hand tools and operating a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) are also required to verify part specifications. The position requires understanding and adhering to quality systems, filling out paperwork, and entering data. Planning and scheduling involve operating multiple machines simultaneously. Additionally, the role includes training other employees on equipment operation and notifying senior staff of any problems. Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Responsibilities

  • Load starting material into machine and unload machined part from machine
  • Deburr Parts as necessary for Inspection and Safety
  • Perform Daily Housekeeping around machine and Daily Maintenance checks
  • Adjust tool offsets and other machine offsets such as fixture offsets, cutter comp, etc.
  • For non-complex machining operations, install and align holding fixtures and accessories on machines per green folder instructions.
  • Align and secure cutting tools into tool holders and install tool assemblies on machines per tool sheet.
  • Retrieve CNC program, ensure revision is correct, and download to machine.
  • Establish the machining offsets (G54, etc.).
  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust set-up as required to make part within specification.
  • Document results and get first-piece stamp for operation.
  • Recognize tool wear and adjust tool offsets as necessary.
  • Identify and build tooling according to the tool sheet. Establish tool heights.
  • Identify correct tool versus the tool sheet and change the tool in the machine.
  • Read CNC program line-by-line to follow tools paths.
  • Use standard hand tools such as vernier calipers, micrometers, and hard gages to ensure that parts were fabricated within specifications.
  • Use any specialty inspection device (ex: vision system) required in each machining cell.
  • Load part onto CMM and operate CMM to ensure that parts were fabricated within specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and quality plans to understand inspection requirements.
  • Fill out Quality System paperwork and enter data into computer as necessary.
  • Operate more than 1 machine at the same time, as required.
  • Train other employees on the basics of operating equipment on which employee is fully competent.
  • Notify more senior machining employees, engineers, or supervisors when problems arise.
