About The Position

This role involves operating and setting up Swiss and Lathe machines to produce machined parts. The operator will be responsible for loading materials, unloading finished parts, deburring, performing daily housekeeping and maintenance checks, and adjusting machine offsets. For non-complex operations, the operator will install fixtures, align cutting tools, retrieve and download CNC programs, establish machining offsets, and monitor machine operation to ensure parts are within specification. The position also requires manual inspection of parts using various hand tools and potentially specialty inspection devices, operating a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), and filling out quality system paperwork. The role may involve training other employees and troubleshooting basic issues, escalating complex problems to senior staff. Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

  • Ability to apply concepts such as decimals, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision and depth perception.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Swiss and Lathe machines, including loading material and unloading machined parts.
  • Deburr parts as necessary for inspection and safety.
  • Perform daily housekeeping around the machine and daily maintenance checks.
  • Adjust tool offsets and other machine offsets (e.g., fixture offsets, cutter compensation).
  • For non-complex operations, install and align holding fixtures and accessories.
  • Align and secure cutting tools and install tool assemblies.
  • Retrieve correct CNC program revisions and download them to the machine.
  • Establish machining offsets (G54, etc.).
  • Observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjust set-up as required.
  • Document results and get first-piece stamp for operation.
  • Recognize tool wear, adjust tool offsets, and identify/build tooling according to the tool sheet.
  • Establish tool heights and identify correct tools versus the tool sheet.
  • Read CNC programs line-by-line to follow tool paths.
  • Perform manual inspection using standard hand tools (calipers, micrometers, gages) and specialty inspection devices.
  • Load parts onto CMM and operate it to ensure parts are within specifications.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and quality plans.
  • Fill out Quality System paperwork and enter data into the computer.
  • Operate more than one machine at the same time, as required.
  • Train other employees on machine operation basics.
  • Notify senior machining employees, engineers, or supervisors when problems arise.
