About The Position

In accordance with the Christian Principles of the YMCA, the coach will recruit, instruct, and train swim team participants. The Coach will evaluate and analyze the readiness of participants for the swim team events. All guidelines will be followed as established in the YMCA Aquatic Program Manual. The Coach is the liaison between the Aquatic Director and the Swim Team Parents. He/she will exemplify the YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of the position or program.

Requirements

  • Must be certified in PR/CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must have experience with a competitive swim team.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of competitive swimming strokes and setting goals for appropriate levels.
  • Must be able to work with a variety of ages and be multi-tasked.
  • Must possess the skills needed to communicate effectively with Parents, Swimmers, and the Aquatic Director.
  • Must receive YMCA Lifeguard Certification or YMCA Aquatic Safety Assistant within six months of employment.
  • Need to possess leadership qualities and public relations skills.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, instruct, and train swim team participants.
  • Evaluate and analyze the readiness of participants for swim team events.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Aquatic Director and Swim Team Parents.
  • Exemplify YMCA values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Stay current in CPR/PR/AED/O2 and First Aid, renewed annually.
  • Communicate progress of swimmers to the Aquatic Director and parents.
  • Recruit participants and volunteers for the program.
  • Communicate with and be responsible for children between the ages of five and 19 years.
  • Receive YMCA Swim Coach certification within one year of employment or at the first available training.
  • Complete any assigned duties for the welfare of the program and YMCA.
  • Analyze participant’s readiness for entry into meet events.
  • Direct swim meets and conduct swim practices.
  • Prepare and set up for meets and practices, as well as break down and clean up after meets and practices.
  • Report meet results as needed to appropriate personnel, Teams, and YMCAs.
  • Run age-appropriate practices.
  • Communicate with parents about the progress of participants and their readiness for event participation.
  • Attend YMCA league meetings and provide the Aquatic Director with updates on the Team and meets.
  • Set up and conduct Parent Meetings.
  • Complete tasks assigned by the Aquatic Director or Branch Executive Director.
  • Attend all team practices and swim meets.
  • Conduct safe, well-planned, and challenging workouts.
  • Perform all duties with the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Develop meaningful and sustainable relationships with members, donors, and volunteers.
