About The Position

The Swim Lesson Instructor teaches swimming lessons to participants from 6 months old through adulthood and senior years, following Greenbelt Aquatic & Fitness Center guidelines. Classes include parent-and-child lessons, American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim classes, tween and teen classes, and adult instructional classes. The instructor enforces pool and safety rules and facility policies to maintain a safe environment and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

Swimming background knowledge.

Nice To Haves

Current Lifeguard Training certification.
Current First Aid certification.
Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification.
Current Automated External Defibrillation certification.

Responsibilities

Know American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels and other Red Cross water safety courses, and use course materials effectively.
Provide swimming instruction to students of all ages, abilities, and skill levels.
Adapt teaching approaches to participants’ ages, experience, and abilities so they can meet course objectives.
Evaluate students and recommend classes appropriate to their skill levels.
Give corrective and positive feedback to support learning and a positive atmosphere.
Complete student evaluation cards.
Prepare instructional equipment before lessons and put it away at the end of lessons.
Communicate regularly with participants and parents.
Recognize distressed swimmers and provide necessary assistance.
Know, understand, and enforce aquatic facility policies, rules, and regulations.
Never leave students unattended.
Report for duty and be ready to work 15 minutes before the shift begins.
Maintain a positive rapport and image with patrons.
Keep the facility clean, including the pool, pool area, and locker rooms.
