Requirements

  • Must have or obtain CPR Pro and First Aid certification
  • Obtain a state police clearance, a child abuse clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
  • Obtain Mandated Reporter Clearance.
  • High School Diploma
  • 3 years teaching swim lessons experience OR completion of YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (YSLI) Training.
  • Meet all requirements for Level II
  • 5 years of experience teaching swim lessons
  • 3 years of experience supervising a staff team
  • Ability to instruct and observe participants in proper stroke techniques.
  • Ability to lift equipment, and to lift a small to average size child.
  • Obtain Criminal background check, Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI fingerprint clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs swimming lessons as assigned in accordance with YMCA guidelines, following lesson plans provided for each class level.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with program participants and parents/caregivers while supporting them in achieving their goals.
  • Relays information regarding participants' progress as well as other programs to parents/caregivers, when appropriate, while maintaining a friendly and warm atmosphere.
  • Maintains records as required (e.g., attendance, parent handbooks, certificates).
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures.
  • Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.
  • Attends staff meetings and in-service trainings when requested.
