About The Position

Under immediate supervision, the Swim Instructor teaches learn-to-swim classes, goal-specific water exercise programs, and other instructional swim programs. The instructor enforces pool safety rules and regulations, helps prevent injuries by minimizing hazardous situations and behaviors, and performs general tasks related to swimming pool operations. This is an unclassified, part-time position.

Requirements

Must be at least 16 years of age by the time of hire.
Must have at least eight hours of instruction experience in an aquatic environment.
Must have American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED certifications by the time of hire.
Must have one of the following by the time of hire: American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI), National Water Aerobic Instructor, or United States Swim Association Swim Coach Certification.
Some positions may require current American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard, First Aid, and CPR/AED certifications for the Professional Rescuer (ARC).
Must be able to move within a swimming pool environment, including leading and participating in water exercise classes and participating in rescues of swimmers in danger of drowning.

Responsibilities

Teach swimming practices to entry-level participants.
Teach water safety practices and procedures.
Maintain participant progress and other reports.
Attend workshops for swim instructors.
Lead a variety of water exercise programs in a pool class setting.
Teach multiple classes per day.
Rescue swimmers using necessary lifesaving techniques and administer first aid.
Monitor the swimming pool, enforce safety rules and regulations, and caution swimmers about unsafe practices.
Clean the pool and pool area.
Perform minor adjustments and maintenance on the pool's filtration and chlorination systems.
Provide maintenance support, including chemical tests and maintenance order requests, in the absence of the Pool Manager.
Perform other duties as assigned.
