About The Position

The primary purpose of this role is to provide swim lessons, both private and group, to children and adults of all levels and abilities, adhering to American Red Cross (ARC) standards and program requirements. Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience on a swim team or have passed the American Red Cross level 5 of swim lessons.
  • Ability to be punctual, organized, approachable and energetic.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to demonstrate skills provided in swim lessons offered.
  • Ability to demonstrate skills as required for class content and use teaching aids such as kickboards, diving rings, lifejackets, etc. to compliment instruction.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to positively interact with general public to command attention and deliver instruction effectively.

  • American Red Cross Lifeguard
  • American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (training will be provided if not obtained prior to start date)
  • Prior experience of instructing swim lessons
  • Former aquatics athletes
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Responsibilities

  • Provide swim lessons for patrons of beginning to advanced skill levels.
  • Lead groups or individuals in swim lesson activities with proper oversight to safely integrate lessons and reduce the risk of injury.
  • Work with varying age groups and skill levels.
  • Instruct and evaluate swimmers, adapting instruction to their needs and abilities.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
