About The Position

For over 80 years, St. Andrew's Parks & Playground Commission has been dedicated to enriching lives through parks, recreation, and wellness. St. Andrew's Family Fitness Plus, a division of St. Andrew's Parks and Playground, is seeking Swim Instructors for its indoor pool. The ideal candidates will possess strong communication skills, be reliable, and demonstrate a commitment to improving participants' swimming abilities. As a Swim Instructor, you will teach swim lessons to individuals of various ages and skill levels in both group and private settings. Responsibilities include assessing student progress and adapting teaching methods to enhance their swimming skills. Swim instructors have the opportunity for advancement through a step progression system based on experience, certification, and consistent availability, with each level offering increased responsibility and commitment.

Requirements

Strong communication skills
Reliability
Commitment to helping participants improve their swimming abilities
Strong swimmer
Enjoy working with participants of all ages
SAI Swim Instructor or ARC Water Safety Instructor certification required prior to independently teaching lessons (Level I)
Level 2 StarFish certification or equivalent (Level II)
Level 2 (or higher) StarFish certification or equivalent (Level III)

Nice To Haves

Training opportunities may be available for selected candidates needing certification
Willing to train swim instructors who are willing to learn
Willing to train candidates whose certification has expired

Responsibilities

Teaching swim lessons to participants of varying ages and skill levels, in group and private sessions.
Assessing the progress of students.
Adjusting teaching style to enhance students' swimming abilities.
