This role assists students and faculty with basic library tasks, including book searches and logging into library resources from off-campus. The assistant will direct users to appropriate resources for more in-depth assistance. Responsibilities include helping with technology and software, such as identifying available software on library computers and performing basic printer maintenance (clearing paper jams, replenishing paper, and installing toner). The role also involves handling circulation tasks like book and equipment check-in/out, processing courier packages, and answering library phones, directing calls, and taking messages. Maintaining library tidiness by pushing in chairs, cleaning whiteboards, and wiping down surfaces and equipment is also part of the job. The assistant will maintain a presence in the library during their shift, observing user needs, library operations, and compliance with library rules, including performing hourly patron counts. They will inform patrons of rules when not followed and refer further issues to supervisors. Organizing the book collection and other library materials using the LC Classification system and the library catalog is required. The role may also involve performing special and general library projects as assigned.
