About The Position

The SW/HW Lifecycle Support Engineer supports the DoD Anti-Tamper Executive Agent Field Program Office (ATEA FPO) with hardware and software lifecycle activities for electronic subsystems and microelectronic components integrated into DoW weapon systems. The work spans design, development, integration, verification, sustainment, and decommissioning, with a focus on protecting Critical Program Information (CPI) and assessing systems for security, reliability, supportability, and susceptibility to adversary exploitation. The role supports customers in Special Access Programs (SAP) and Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) facilities and involves daily interaction with program managers, engineers, financial managers, industry subject matter experts, Military Service laboratories, and DoD and Intelligence Community customers. The position is located at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio, and includes technical work in a classified environment. The engineer applies DoW, Air Force, and common engineering and scientific principles to weapon-system planning, acquisition, development, manufacturing, operation, re-manufacturing, and de-militarization. Work includes systems engineering and analysis, requirements and specification review, system and subsystem integration, risk and lifecycle assessments, and development and maintenance of technical Anti-Tamper Security Classification Guides. The role also supports software development processes, including requirements, design, implementation, and verification, and applies knowledge of DevSecOps, CI/CD, and agile practices to integrated hardware/software solutions.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 20 years of relevant DoD work experience; experience may be waiverable with customer approval.
  • At least three years of experience in a SAP and/or SCI environment within the last five years; this experience may be waiverable with customer approval.
  • BS and MS degrees in Electrical, Radar, Software, Microelectronics, or Computer Engineering; the master's degree may be waiverable with customer approval.
  • Active Top Secret security clearance based on a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) or Single Scope Background Periodic Reinvestigation (SBPR).
  • Must be eligible for Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) and Special Access Programs (SAP) access.
  • Understand software for operation, data processing, and control functions; message protocols, transmission, and subsystem/component communications; and storage elements within electronic subsystems and microelectronics circuitry and components.
  • Ability to apply DoW, Air Force, and common engineering and scientific principles, criteria, and procedures.
  • Technical writing skills for developing and maintaining technical Anti-Tamper Security Classification Guides.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Program Protection planning and Systems Security Engineering (SSE) implementation in weapon-system programs.
  • Experience evaluating fielded weapon systems for Anti-Tamper and reverse-engineering susceptibility based on vendor design.
  • Experience identifying susceptibility of critical protected information to exploitation and reverse engineering.
  • Experience supporting development of industry and DoD standards to improve future weapon systems’ resistance to reverse-engineering exploitation.
  • Experience working with industry to assess tamper resistance of weapon systems during the acquisition development cycle.
  • Familiarity with modern software languages, applications, and development tools.
  • Passion for DoD systems and advanced technologies, and interest in defense-system modernization.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, attention to detail, professional customer service, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Support the ATEA FPO by accomplishing technical tasks in a classified work environment.
  • Provide hardware and software system and subsystem integration support across the lifecycle of DoW weapon systems, including design, sustainment, and decommissioning.
  • Apply Anti-Tamper and cyber lifecycle integration knowledge to protect CPI in weapon-system operating modes and states.
  • Support software development activities, including requirements definition, design, implementation, and subsystem and microelectronics-enabled capability verification.
  • Apply knowledge of DevSecOps, CI/CD, and agile software development practices to support delivery of secure integrated hardware/software solutions.
  • Collaborate with Military Service laboratories and industry partners to evaluate and improve lifecycle processes related to CPI in electronic subsystems and microelectronic components.
  • Assess GOTS and COTS electronic subsystem and microelectronic component hardware and software features for security, reliability, and lifecycle supportability.
  • Support technology acquisitions, including RFP development, technical oversight, and verification of weapon-system design requirements.
  • Contribute to training and curriculum development for hardware/software lifecycle support and electronic/microelectronic integration.
  • Assess current and future weapon systems for susceptibility and vulnerability to adversary exploitation.
  • Apply DoW, Air Force, and common engineering and scientific principles to weapon-system manufacture, operations, re-manufacture, and de-militarization, including oversight and Program Protection planning.
  • Translate user requirements into system requirements used to design, develop, fabricate, test, and evaluate systems, subsystems, and equipment.
  • Support and conduct engineering performance, effectiveness, cost-effectiveness, cost-performance, lifecycle-cost, producibility, maintainability, supportability, reliability, technical-risk, and schedule-risk assessments and trade-off studies.
  • Support and conduct systems analyses, including system design feasibility and state-of-the-art assessments.
  • Perform technical and mission analyses of operational requirements, help develop system concepts, and assess proposed designs through technology and trade-off studies.
  • Provide systems and subsystems integration support for acquisition, development, and verification of systems and equipment and their CPI.
  • Review system, system-segment, and equipment specifications and Interface Control Documents (ICDs).
  • Help develop requirements and technology needs into action plans and policies to improve and retain weapon-system manufacturing, operations, re-manufacturing, and de-militarization capabilities.
  • Develop, modify, update, revise, and maintain technical Anti-Tamper Security Classification Guides using engineering principles and technical writing skills.
