Software Systems Engineer Architect SME (SW)

Modern Technology Solutions Inc•Bath Township, OH

About The Position

MTSI is seeking an experienced Software Systems Engineer Architect SME to provide high‑level technical leadership within our customer’s Software Branch. In this senior role, you will shape the vision, design, and implementation of advanced software system architectures that enable secure, scalable, and mission‑focused capabilities across the full system lifecycle—from initial concept and architecture through development, integration, deployment, operations, and transition to sustainment. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted software architecture authority, representing the customer and driving the strategic design and integration of software solutions into complex, multi‑system environments. Responsibilities include defining and maturing enterprise software architecture, developing modernization and integration strategies, establishing technical standards, ensuring compliance with applicable engineering policies and directives, and independently supporting the program office across all architectural planning, systems engineering, and technical execution activities. This position requires deep technical expertise, a strong understanding of advanced software architecture and systems engineering principles, and the ability to translate complex mission and technical requirements into secure, scalable, and resilient software solutions. If you are a motivated professional with a passion for shaping and delivering enterprise‑level software architectures, we encourage you to apply.

  • Assess new software capabilities, architectural updates, and modernization initiatives; recommend and validate optimal software system architecture solutions.
  • Review, approve, and oversee architectural documentation including system architecture diagrams, interface control artifacts, enterprise reference models, modernization roadmaps, and integration architectures.
  • Lead and validate architectural reviews, design assessments, and system evaluations to ensure software environments, interfaces, and components meet mission, security, and performance requirements.
  • Prepare and deliver enterprise architecture assessments, modernization strategies, technical roadmaps, and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Apply sound software engineering principles, modular design practices, automation approaches, and modern architectural patterns across all phases of development, integration, and deployment.
  • Evaluate software, network, and system architectures to identify scalability, resiliency, interoperability, and security considerations; recommend strategic mitigation and optimization approaches.
  • Provide expert architectural guidance to teams developing new mission applications or modernizing legacy systems, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture goals and long‑term system strategies.
  • Identify and resolve complex system‑of‑systems engineering and architectural challenges as new software capabilities are integrated into diverse mission and data environments.
