About The Position

This SVP, Relationship Manager role is responsible for both client-facing business development and portfolio management. This position is ideal for someone in a smaller lending team who can handle both functions, or for someone in a larger team looking to transition into a Senior Relationship Manager role but not yet ready for the full loan goal targets. The function of this position is to identify and bring new loan clients to the bank, while also managing an existing assigned portfolio. The incumbent has no direct reports.

Requirements

  • U.S. College graduate with a major in related fields, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of commercial lending, franchise finance, and banking experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of lending regulations and credit/underwriting practices.
  • Strong loan negotiation experience (rates, terms, collateral requirements).
  • Previous underwriting experience in the requisite area of commercial lending.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Bank’s credit policy, risk management, underwriting requirements, and loan servicing.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of commercial and specialty group banking products and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to cross-sell products.
  • PC proficient.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well independently to structure loans and/or lines of credit.
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented and able to multi-task.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high production and team environment.
  • Excellent time management skills and accustomed to working with deadlines.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and accountability for decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of Bank personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and bring new clients to the Bank, meeting annual new loan commitment/outstanding goals.
  • Negotiate and structure the primary terms of the loan with the client, circulating concept memos if needed.
  • Work with underwriters, loan assistants, and support staff to prepare Credit Commitment Reports (CCR) for new loans, renewals, amendments, and annual reviews.
  • Present CCRs to the requisite approval authority levels, taking ultimate responsibility for the content.
  • Review loan documents for accuracy, whether internally prepared or by outside counsel.
  • Manage the client experience during the loan closing process, ensuring all necessary items are in process.
  • Monitor and manage the credit quality of the assigned loan portfolio, ensuring proper risk rating.
  • Review client accounts and portfolios to identify, evaluate, and address potential credit quality issues.
  • Ensure compliance with Bank, regulatory, and credit requirements while providing best-in-class customer service within required timeframes.
  • Assist with mentoring and coaching junior officers and loan staff.
