About The Position

The Relationship Manager (RM) is responsible for both client-facing business development and portfolio management. This role is typically found in smaller lending teams where one person handles both functions. In larger teams, this title may be for someone transitioning to a Senior Relationship Manager (SRM) role. The position's function is to identify and bring in new loan clients and manage an existing assigned portfolio. Requirements

  • U.S. College graduate with a major in related fields.
  • 7-10+ years of commercial lending and banking experience (for FVP).
  • 10+ years of commercial lending and banking experience (for SVP).
  • Thorough knowledge of lending regulations and credit/underwriting practices.
  • Strong loan negotiation experience (rates, terms, collateral requirements).
  • Previous underwriting or portfolio management experience in commercial real estate and construction lending.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of Bank’s credit policy, risk management, underwriting requirements, and loan servicing.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of commercial and specialty group banking products and services.
  • Demonstrated ability to cross-sell products and services.
  • PC proficient.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work well independently to structure loans and/or lines of credit.
  • Must be organized and detail-oriented.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high production and team environment.
  • Excellent time management skills and accustomed to working with deadlines.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and accountability for decision-making.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of Bank personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (English/Mandarin or Cantonese) is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and bring new clients to the Bank, meeting specific new loan commitment/outstanding and deposit goals.
  • Cross-sell Bank’s other products and services.
  • Negotiate and structure the primary terms of the loan with the client.
  • Circulate concept memo if needed prior to issuance of term sheet/LOI.
  • Work with designated underwriter, loan assistants, and other loan support staff to prepare the Credit Commitment Report (CCR) for new loans, renewals, amendments, and annual reviews.
  • Present each CCR to the requisite approval authority levels, taking ultimate responsibility for the content.
  • Review loan documents to ensure accuracy.
  • Manage the client experience during the loan closing process with loan assistants and loan support staff.
  • Monitor and manage the credit quality of the assigned loan portfolio.
  • Review to ensure each credit is properly risk rated based on the Bank’s risk rating system.
  • Identify, evaluate, and determine the appropriate course of action on potential credit quality issues to maximize credit quality and minimize risk and potential loss to the Bank.
  • Ensure compliance with Bank, regulatory, and credit requirements while adhering to required timeframes and providing best-in-class customer service.
  • Assist with mentoring and coaching junior officers and loan staff.
