About The Position

The Senior Vice President, Legal serves as the senior legal leader for the United States, Canada, and Mexico, providing strategic counsel and enterprise-level legal leadership across commercial contracts, mergers & acquisitions, litigation and dispute resolution, employment law, real estate and corporate governance. As part of the global Legal Function of the Segment, this role operates as a trusted advisor to North American executive leadership, influencing business strategy, managing enterprise risk, and ensuring the organization operates with integrity and compliance across all jurisdictions.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
  • Admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • 12+ years of progressive legal experience with significant responsibility advising senior executives and leading complex legal matters.
  • Demonstrated senior leadership experience, including leading legal teams and providing enterprise-level legal direction across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Deep experience in employment and labor law, commercial matters, and regulatory compliance within a complex organization.
  • Proven ability to operate as a strategic advisor, exercising sound judgment and influencing executive decision-making.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience supporting operations in Mexico and Canada, including familiarity with Mexican and Canadian labor and employment law.
  • Prior in-house legal leadership experience in a multinational or industrial organization.
  • Experience advising boards and executive leadership teams.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary legal advisor to North American executive leadership, providing forward-looking, strategic counsel on complex business, transactional, litigation, employment and regulatory compliance matters.
  • Shape and execute the North American legal strategy in alignment with global legal priorities and regional business objectives including growth and portfolio management.
  • Advise on high-impact enterprise matters, including mergers and acquisitions, restructurings, major commercial transactions, workforce strategy, and significant risk events.
  • Act as a thought partner to senior leaders, balancing legal risk with practical business judgment.
  • Provide strategic oversight of commercial contracting frameworks, standard terms, risk positions, and dispute resolution strategy in key customer, supplier and other commercial relationships.
  • Oversee the legal workstream for M&A and other strategic transactions in close coordination with other involved functions on design, implementation, valuation, risk allocation, synergies and post-closing integration.
  • Provide executive-level oversight of employment and labor law matters across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.
  • Lead a team that advises HR and business leaders on workforce strategy, executive employment matters, investigations, reductions in force, labor relations, and union-related issues.
  • Oversee the litigation and dispute portfolio in North America including commercial, employment and real estate disputes as well as significant administrative and regulatory proceedings.
  • Advise on significant real estate transactions and site-related legal matters across North America.
  • Oversee corporate governance, entity management, and board-related legal support for North American entities, ensuring compliance with internal policies and external governance requirements.
  • Lead and develop the North American legal team, setting clear direction, priorities, and expectations.
  • Oversee and ensure the effectiveness of legal resources, external counsel strategy and legal spend.
  • Drive continuous improvement in legal operations, governance, and risk management practices (including processes, templates and tools).
