SVP - Head of Finance & Accounting

MonstroNew York, NY

About The Position

Monstro is seeking a hands-on SVP Head of Finance & Accounting to lead the entire finance function, encompassing accounting, financial close, back-office operations, client billing, vendor cost management, reporting, and compliance. As the inaugural finance hire, this role involves building the finance infrastructure from the ground up to support Monstro's growth. The position requires managing day-to-day accounting tasks, running the close process, and overseeing back-office operations, while also architecting control systems for revenue recognition, vendor and API cost attribution, and spend compliance within a regulated fintech environment. Finance at Monstro is viewed as operational infrastructure rather than administrative support.

Requirements

  • At least 4-5 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., Controller, VP Finance, Head of Finance) at a high-growth fintech or SaaS company.
  • Bachelor's in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Experience building financial infrastructure at a high-growth SaaS or fintech company from scratch.
  • Hands-on experience with B2B2C or usage-based billing with cost attribution challenges.
  • Familiarity with API economics, cloud infrastructure costs, and data licensing.
  • Understanding of multi-entity corporate structuring across IP, jurisdictions, tax, and corporate planning.
  • Strong command of GAAP, ASC 606, and documentation requirements in a regulated environment.
  • Experience implementing accounting and spend management systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Airbase, Ramp).
  • Calm, precise communicator across founders, institutional clients, and auditors.

Nice To Haves

  • Manage end-to-end client billing, including usage data ingestion, invoice generation, collections, and revenue recognition.
  • Build billing infrastructure to handle B2B2C complexities such as tiered pricing, usage-based models, and institutional invoicing.
  • Partner with product and engineering to ensure accuracy and traceability of usage data.
  • Develop a vendor cost management framework to track and attribute API consumption, data licensing, and third-party infrastructure costs.
  • Collaborate with engineering to instrument cost attribution at the infrastructure level.
  • Surface cost trends and unit economics to inform pricing, product, and executive decisions.
  • Build a reporting layer for visible, attributable, and defensible spend.
  • Establish and enforce a spend compliance framework, including policy documentation and approval chains.
  • Serve as the primary point of accountability for financial controls.
  • Manage all day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger, AP/AR, payroll coordination, and month-end close.

  • Maintain audit-ready books and documentation.
  • Build and maintain the core financial reporting package (P&L, cash flow, balance sheet).
