About The Position

Collectors is seeking a Sustainment Engineer I to join their Operations Engineering team. This role is responsible for maintaining the company's fleet of injection molding tool sets by working with molders, supporting supplier quality through root cause analysis and corrective actions, and investigating production issues to implement solutions. The Sustainment Engineer will act as a technical subject matter expert for internal stakeholders across all Collectors brands and will report to the Manager of Mechanical Design Engineering. The position is based in Santa Ana, CA, and requires the employee to be onsite 5 days per week. Occasional travel, up to 10%, to domestic and international vendors and Collectors locations is expected.

Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering (Required)
  • 0–3 years of proven success in a Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering role
  • Direct experience with the design, maintenance, and material selection of injection molded components and tooling
  • Analytical & Inquisitive: Naturally curious with a drive to master new systems and a habit of asking the "why" behind the "how"
  • Strong verbal and technical writing skills, capable of translating complex issues into actionable plans
  • A disciplined team player who thrives on feedback and remains focused in deadline-driven environments
  • High attention to detail with an organized approach to managing multiple technical priorities
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with ultrasonic welding processes
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent CAD platforms for design review and troubleshooting
  • Background in injection mold tool design is highly desirable

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the sustainment and optimization of a high-volume, global fleet of injection mold tooling
  • Lead the technical support for the design, fabrication, and qualification of replacement tooling to ensure seamless production continuity
  • Execute deep-dive root cause investigations for internal production bottlenecks and supplier quality deviations
  • Author and maintain comprehensive SOPs to ensure process standardization across the sustainment lifecycle
  • Design and implement robust internal workflows to streamline the sustainment of physical assets
  • Proactively identify and pitch data-driven opportunities for product, equipment, and efficiency enhancements
  • Serve as a technical bridge between Quality, Purchasing, CI, and Manufacturing to hit operational targets
