The Sustaining Engineering Internship is part of the Cargo Mission Contract program, whose managers, engineers, and staff provide cargo mission engineering and integration services for NASA’s International Space Station (ISS) Program and Artemis campaign. The team develops, fabricates, and certifies hardware to support mission objectives and implements space station and Artemis manifest requirements for launch, return, and disposal, as well as logistical and integration functions that maintain crew provisions and supplies. Most of the internship work directly supports the ISS. The intern will support engineers in the multi-phase, multi-review certification process for ISS hardware, helping ensure items are safe, reliable, and compliant with NASA standards before delivery to astronauts. Hardware may include laboratory equipment, research systems, environmental and life support hardware, robotics systems, data and communication networks, and power systems. The intern will also document engineering planning meetings and action plans; assist with work orders, non-conformance documents, draft estimates and schedules, procurement documents, and presentation charts; and help maintain current work and testing statuses, compare planned and actual dates, flag delays, and coordinate follow-ups. The internship is based in Webster, Texas, runs from November 2026 through May 2027, and is part-time at 20–30 hours per week. The desired course of study is Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering.
