About The Position

UNCW Dining Sustainability is seeking student interns to serve as Sustainability Ambassadors for the Fall 2025 semester. This is an excellent opportunity to participate in hands-on sustainability initiatives within campus dining and gain experiential knowledge in food service sustainability. Our programs include multi-stream waste diversion, microgreens and shoots, aquaponics, environmental certifications and grants, and sustainability education initiatives.

Requirements

• Currently enrolled at UNCW
• Interest and/or experience in sustainability, food service, or food systems
• Comfortable speaking with peers and working in group settings
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Nice To Haves

• Previous custodial experience preferred
• Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling greater than 50 lbs.
• Must be able to follow basic safety procedures and precautions due to physical risks and exposure to hazardous chemicals
• Self-motivated, flexible, and quick to learn

Responsibilities

• Maintain microgreens and shoots (planting, watering, harvesting)
• Monitor aquaponics system (water quality testing)
• Assist with sustainability outreach events (setup, breakdown, student engagement)
• Support waste-related initiatives
• Generate social media content
• Perform general office assistance and research
