About The Position

Our client, a respected plaintiffs' litigation firm, is seeking a litigation attorney to join its growing Survivor Advocacy practice. This is an outstanding opportunity to represent survivors of sexual assault and abuse in high-impact civil litigation while working in a collaborative, mission-driven environment. The successful candidate will manage a caseload of approximately 20–30 matters from intake through resolution, handling investigations, discovery, depositions, motion practice, court appearances, mediations, and settlements. The role offers significant autonomy, meaningful client interaction, and the opportunity to develop as a trial lawyer. The ideal candidate is a proactive litigator with strong judgment, excellent writing skills, and a compassionate, trauma-informed approach to client advocacy.

Requirements

  • 4–6 years of civil litigation experience.
  • Excellent legal writing, research, and oral advocacy skills.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and litigation judgment.
  • Demonstrated empathy, professionalism, and commitment to client advocacy.
  • Licensed and in good standing to practice law in Illinois.

Nice To Haves

  • Plaintiff-side, personal injury, survivor advocacy, or sexual assault/abuse litigation experience preferred.
  • Attorneys with prosecutorial or public defender experience are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a caseload of sexual assault and abuse matters from intake through resolution, including both pre-suit and active litigation.
  • Build trusted client relationships through consistent, trauma-informed communication and counseling.
  • Investigate claims, including obtaining records, conducting witness interviews, submitting FOIA/public records requests, and working with experts to develop liability and damages.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, discovery, demand letters, settlement agreements, and other substantive legal filings.
  • Handle all aspects of discovery, including preparing clients and witnesses, and taking and defending depositions.
  • Represent clients at hearings, mediations, arbitrations, and, when necessary, trial.
  • Negotiate settlements and collaborate with attorneys and legal staff to achieve successful client outcomes.
