JMT is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Senior Land Surveyor to lead field and office survey operations, manage survey and SUE crews, and ensure the quality of deliverables. This role involves planning, executing, and overseeing surveying and SUE procedures, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring compliance with standards and regulations. The position also includes responsibilities for business development, financial success, and local department staff management.

Requirements

  • Experienced and detail-oriented Senior Land Surveyor.
  • Ability to lead field and office survey operations.
  • Experience managing survey and SUE crews.
  • Proficiency in surveying software (e.g., Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Carlson, MicroStation).
  • Ability to train assistants and helpers.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols, company standards, and legal requirements.
  • Experience in marketing and business development.
  • Experience managing financial budgets and allocating resources.
  • Ability to lead and contribute to proposal production.
  • Ability to serve as a technical expertise resource.
  • Experience establishing staffing needs.
  • Experience interviewing and hiring staff.
  • Experience performing performance reviews.
  • Leadership and continuous performance management skills.
  • Eligible for TN visa classification (Immigration sponsorship is not available except for TN visa).

Responsibilities

  • Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys.
  • Make decisions independently on surveying problems and methods and represent the organization in conferences and meetings to resolve important questions, and to plan and coordinate work.
  • Plan and develop surveying projects concerned with unique or controversial problems which have an important effect on firm's major projects.
  • Manage schedules, budgets, project deliverables, assigns and directs projects concerning surveying and SUE within the office.
  • Prepare or supervise preparation of all data, plats, maps, records, Digital Terrain Models (DTM), legal descriptions and documents related to surveys and SUE.
  • Process field data using surveying software (e.g., Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, Carlson, MicroStation).
  • Train assistants and helpers and direct their work in such activities as performing surveys or drafting maps.
  • Develop or redefine criteria for survey methods and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols, company standards, and legal requirements.
  • Coordinate strategic growth plan with office managers and practice leaders.
  • Establish and grow market presence in area through marketing and business development.
  • Manage financial budget for department and allocate resources accordingly.
  • Lead and contribute to the production of proposals.
  • Serve as a technical expertise resource to project managers and technical staff.
  • Establish resources staffing needs for the section.
  • Interview and hire staff for the section.
  • Perform performance reviews for staff.
  • Lead and manage team members by providing leadership and continuous performance management (setting expectations, goals, feedback, 1:1 meeting, coaching) that supports the growth and development of team.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
