Surveyor/Instrument Technician Interprets and adapts design and construction plans from Engineering blueprints to site conditions for bridges, channels and special structures. Gathers and calculates field data for construction equipment operators/contracts and ensures construction work is performed within acceptable limits. Assists other departments and entities in technical surveying work. Plans ground surveys designed to establish base lines, elevations, and other geodetic measurements. Collects field data; profiles and cross-sections of drainage channels and topographic data for engineering design. Operates survey equipment including GPS equipment; performs mathematical calculations; collects, analyzes, and interprets Global Positioning System (GPS) data. Meet with landowners to discuss construction on their property. Instructs all levels of equipment operators and bridge crew of technical data shown in plans for construction projects. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers.
