About The Position

The Surveying Helper assists skilled craftspersons with surveying-related duties under immediate supervision. The level and degree of responsibilities vary according to experience and assigned job step. The role involves supporting construction surveying activities, learning to establish elevations and grades, and operating and maintaining surveying tools and instruments.

Requirements

• Ability to pass pre-access drug and alcohol testing, a fit-for-duty medical examination, and a background check.
• Ability to understand, follow, and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management and supervision.
• Field experience in the chosen craft discipline.
• Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of hand tools, power tools, and layout tools.
• Must possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the position.
• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or a related area.
• Must have required tools.
• Able to move items weighing up to 50 pounds across a construction or industrial site, if required.
• Able to climb and maintain balance on formwork, steel formwork, stairs, ladders, and scaffolds, including access to work areas that may exceed 200 feet, if required.

Responsibilities

• Perform surveying-related manual labor, including cutting brush for lines and carrying stakes, pins, and right-of-way markers to delineate features of construction projects.
• Assist with and learn to establish elevations and grades as required.
• Install or neatly mark elevations as instructed by the Surveying Journeyman.
• Assist with and learn to measure distances manually using survey chains and a plumb bob, and maintain survey chains for accuracy and consistency.
• Learn to set up items associated with electronic measuring and sighting and perform these actions as needed.
• Operate and maintain survey tools and instruments.
• Observe and comply with safety and project rules and perform other duties as required.
