About The Position

This posting is for Summer 2027 New Graduate opportunities. IMEG is hiring a Surveying New Graduate in Billings, MT to support land surveying work across construction stakeout, boundary, topographic, and as built surveys. This entry-level role offers hands-on design, analysis, and project execution experience, with mentorship, training, and opportunities to grow your expertise from day one. In this role, you will support survey computations, field data review, CAD-based reductions, and field work under the leadership of a Survey Coordinator or Land Surveyor. You will also contribute to residential and land development projects while building your technical foundation in surveying operations, office workflows, and client service.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent required
  • Work to gain or advance knowledge of land surveying operations, computations, principles and practices
  • Work to gain understanding or advance ability to read and interpret engineering plans and construction documents
  • Knowledgeable with on-site office operation, office workflow processes and problem-solving techniques
  • Work to gain understanding of survey operations and identification of potential problems
  • Knowledgeable with AutoCAD C3D, survey, GPS, MS Office software
  • Possesses oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate with clients, officials, contractors, coworkers and professionally represent IMEG
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to be insured by IMEG carrier; must consent to a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background check
  • Proficient in Microsoft and MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel with occasional overnight stays

  • Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform survey duties for construction stakeout and boundary, topographic, and as built surveys
  • Research historic maps, land records, previous surveys, and land title reports
  • Assist with boundary reductions and mapping and topographic field reductions in CAD and survey software
  • Download, maintain, and verify project survey data, and review processed data collection and field notes for quality control
  • Assist with survey computations, staking and control exhibits, and survey crew instructions for construction staking and field survey projects
  • Assist with the operation of GPS equipment, total stations, levels, data collectors, and other survey equipment
  • Act as a survey field technician as requested to complete survey field work
  • Assist CAD Techs in preparing plans and plats describing the surveys performed
  • Maintain professional and productive working relationships with clients and coworkers, operate a company vehicle, and observe safety and security procedures
