About The Position

This position performs technical surveying duties. Operates survey equipment in the collection of field data. Sets up, programs, and operates total station survey equipment, robotic instruments, and global positioning satellite system. Uses plumb to attain accurate line of site; uses level rod to run elevations for roads, bridges, and poles. Downloads collected data into laptop and office computers. Researches maps and records. Flags traffic as necessary. Ensures proper care and maintenance of survey equipment and vehicle. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of land surveying.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of records maintenance.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Skill in problem solving and decision making.
  • Skill in reading maps, blueprints, and other reference tables.
  • Skill in the specialized tools and instruments used in drafting and surveying.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of specialized training in the occupational field, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
