About The Position

IMEG is hiring a Survey Technician in Billings, MT, to support land surveying office production and field activities. In this entry-level role, you will help process incoming information, support office and field staff, and contribute to final land surveying project deliverables under the leadership of a Senior Survey Coordinator. You’ll also support accurate, standards-based survey workflows that help meet client and project needs.

Requirements

  • Associate degree, or certificate, in Land Surveying or Engineering preferred
  • Prior experience in the land surveying, consulting or construction industry is preferred
  • Work to gain knowledge of survey operations, principles, and practices
  • Knowledge of engineering plans and construction documents
  • Knowledgeable of office workflow processes and problem-solving techniques
  • Strong computer and technical skills; AutoCAD or similar applications are a plus
  • Proficiency in technical math, geometry, and trigonometry is recommended
  • Possess basic oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to communicate with clients, coworkers and professionally represent IMEG
  • Valid driver’s license with ability to be insured by IMEG carrier; must consent to a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background check
  • Proficient in Microsoft and MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel with occasional overnight stays

Responsibilities

  • Process survey data using IMEG CAD standards while helping ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable land survey project and professional standards under the direction of your supervisor and a licensed professional
  • Monitor field crew production and support quality assurance efforts
  • Research historical maps, land records, previous surveys, and land title reports
  • Provide survey computations, staking/control exhibits, and survey crew instructions for construction staking and field survey projects
  • Prepare cadastral, existing conditions, and platting documents from field and office data using AutoCAD Civil software
  • Carry out initial quality control of field deliverables according to standards and best practices
  • Coordinate with your supervisor to help meet client-specific demands
  • Act as a field technician as requested to complete survey field work
  • Maintain professional and productive working relationships with clients and coworkers
  • Observe safety and security procedures
