About The Position

Responsible for assisting with field surveying activities, including maintenance of survey equipment. Keeps abreast of the latest surveying methods and recommends revisions to the surveying procedures to the Crew Chief as identified. Receives training and instruction on surveying from Crew Chief and Instrument Person. Load and unload survey equipment to and from work vehicle. Ensure that the truck has the necessary materials for each day’s/week’s work tasks. Set up backsights and foresights. Accurately and efficiently clears line, establishes points, tape, chain and level for field survey projects as assigned by Crew Chief. Correctly make measurements using a tape measure. Assist in searching for property corners. Use a machete as needed to cut line. Drive rebar, stakes and hubs into the ground using a hammer. Maintain and operate survey grade instruments. Setup safety equipment and flag traffic when necessary. Observes all safety guidelines and procedures, particularly when working around traffic or on active construction sites. Familiar with data collection codes. Anticipate where shots needs to be taken without being told, run topo and level rod efficiently. Obtain a general knowledge of safety procedures. Must wear Personal Protective Equipment Required: (i.e. Safety Boots). Requires a valid driver’s license and must maintain eligibility to drive as per the Company Vehicle policy. May assist on Utility projects as needed. May perform light office duties including but not limited to filing, making copies, and scanning. May carry out other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to obtain badges and certifications necessary to enter sites and perform work (e.g., M.O.T., School badges, Duke Energy, CSX, DOD)
  • Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Ability to work in inclement weather

  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking long distances, standing for long periods, frequently lifting and moving up to 25 pounds and occasionally lifting and moving up to 100 pounds
  • Work may require climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, walking on uneven ground, squatting, crawling, and grasping
  • Ability to clear lines with power equipment or hand tools
  • Frequent exposure to adverse and hazardous environmental conditions including but not limited to excessive noise levels, inclement weather conditions, exposure to wastewater, working in congested residential areas, in and around main highways and roads, trenches and deep excavations
  • Exposure to dirt, dust, noises, fumes, odors, water, and mud
  • Ability to work on slippery, loose, uneven, and sloped surfaces
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and must maintain eligibility to drive as per the Company Vehicle policy
