About The Position

The SURVEY PARTY CHIEF position provides front-line supervisory guidance to survey field crews while performing preliminary, construction, boundary and control surveys. Provides effective day-to-day supervision and training of assigned survey crew staff. Reads and interprets plans and specifications. Operates and maintains a variety of survey equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Determines equipment, materials and personnel needed for specific jobs. Identifies and implements priorities, effective courses of action in order to complete work assignments by established deadlines. Maintains files of maps, documents, and other records. Performs extensive surveying calculations for grades, angles and distances. Makes legible survey notes and drawings. Efficiently operates survey instruments, including GPS, robotics, electronic total stations and data collectors. Enters survey data in an organized and coherent manner into a data collector. Perform related duties as assigned by supervisor. Maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Equivalent combination of 6 years of education and relevant, progressive technical surveying experience preferred.
  • Land Surveyor-in-Training preferred.
  • Knowledge of surveying principles and practices and engineering design and construction practices.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
  • Valid driver’s license required; must have satisfactory driving record in accordance with EMC fleet insurance requirements and be able to pass a background check in order to work on military, industrial, and port sites.
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices

Nice To Haves

  • Equivalent combination of 6 years of education and relevant, progressive technical surveying experience preferred.
  • Land Surveyor-in-Training preferred.
