About The Position

The Land Surveying Intern will join a field and office survey team supporting boundary, topographic, and construction surveys for utility-scale wind, solar, and battery energy storage projects. Projects range from preliminary site topographic mapping to final as-built surveys for renewable energy developers, IPPs, and utility clients. This position offers a direct opportunity to apply surveying and geomatics coursework to real-world renewable energy infrastructure projects. As a Land Surveying Intern, the selected candidate will learn to operate GPS, robotic total station, and drone-based data collection equipment in the field, and will assist Professional Land Surveyors in the processing, drafting, and quality control of boundary surveys, topographic mapping, and construction staking deliverables.

Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering Technology, or a related field.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with clients, survey crews, and project team members.
  • Willingness to learn in a flexible, cross-disciplinary work environment.
  • Willingness to perform physically demanding fieldwork in varied outdoor and weather conditions, including walking long distances over uneven terrain.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Relevant industry experience through coursework, field crew work, or prior internships in land surveying or geomatics.
  • Experience with survey software and equipment, including Trimble Access, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or robotic total stations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist survey crews with boundary, topographic, and ALTA/NSPS land title surveys on wind, solar, and battery storage project sites.
  • Operate and help maintain GPS, robotic total station, and data collection equipment under the supervision of licensed surveyors.
  • Support construction staking for access roads, turbine and panel foundations, and underground collection systems.
  • Process field survey data and assist with drafting deliverables in AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Help research and compile deed, plat, and right-of-way records to support boundary retracement and easement preparation.
  • Travel to project sites, often in rural or remote locations, to perform field data collection in varied outdoor conditions.
