Bolton & Menk has an exciting opportunity for a Survey Field Technician to join our Cedar Rapids office. In this role, you’ll spend approximately 90% of your time in the field and 10% in the office, supporting a variety of projects. Your fieldwork will include tasks such as construction staking, boundary surveys, ALTA/NSPS land title surveys, and topographic mapping. This is a full-time position with benefits; subject to seasonal layoff.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field, OR equivalent training or experience
  • 3+ years of related field experience with data collection, construction staking, and/or knowledge of legal descriptions preferred
  • Ability to perform tasks and solve problems with a high degree of independence
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and be insurable at the Firm's standard rates.
  • A motor vehicle record (MVR) check is a standard condition of employment.
  • Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments
  • Ability to carry survey equipment and supplies in remote, rural, or urban surroundings
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds and walk long distances
  • Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment without a need for current or future visa sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • NSPE Certified Survey Technical Level III or LSIT Certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform field assignments for land surveying scopes of work including construction staking, boundary location, ALTA/ASCM, topography surveys and performing routine survey/engineering computations for various project types
  • Collect and process field measurements and data for engineering and surveying projects
  • Operate survey instruments, such as total stations, data collectors, levels, and GPS equipment, and resolve operation issues
  • Research existing survey and engineering records
  • Transfer files between data collectors and internal company project folders
  • Maintain company vehicle and company equipment in a clean, professional manner
  • Maintain productive working relationships with all clients and coworkers
