About The Position

The Will Group is seeking a Survey Field Technician to join our team in Mattoon, IL. This is a hands-on, field-based opportunity supporting land surveying, construction layout, topographic surveys, boundary surveys, and materials testing. This is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in building a career in land surveying, civil engineering, construction, or infrastructure. Previous surveying experience is preferred but not required. Extensive field and office training will be provided. You will work alongside experienced survey professionals using modern equipment and technology to collect accurate field data that supports engineering, design, construction, and infrastructure projects.

Requirements

  • Valid driver's license and adequate driving record
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions

Nice To Haves

  • Previous land surveying experience
  • Construction or outdoor fieldwork experience
  • Familiarity with GPS, total stations, levels, or data collectors
  • Familiarity with surveying software
  • Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field
  • Interest in pursuing a career in land surveying

Responsibilities

  • Perform topographic, boundary, and construction layout surveys
  • Operate GPS, total stations, data collectors, digital levels, and other survey equipment
  • Collect, record, and document accurate field data
  • Set survey points, drive stakes, hold rods, and mark locations
  • Maintain field books, notes, sketches, and digital records
  • Upload and organize daily field data
  • Assist with basic survey calculations and data interpretation
  • Use surveying software to collect, retrieve, and review data
  • Assist with materials testing for concrete, asphalt, soils, and aggregates
  • Maintain and care for assigned survey equipment
  • Coordinate with survey crews and office personnel
  • Follow all company safety policies and job-site procedures
  • Support continuous improvement, efficiency, and quality initiatives
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
