About The Position

The survey field service technician collects field data utilizing common surveying equipment. The role involves setting up, adjusting, and operating surveying equipment and instruments to collect field data, reporting data back to surveyors and other Wightman professionals. Responsibilities include measuring, recording, and calculating data based on instrument readings, as well as laying out, locating, and recovering markings, stakes, and other signifiers at work locations. The technician will also assist in creating drawings and computer images of job locations, maintaining equipment and vehicles, and conducting surveys to determine the location of natural features and man-made structures. Additionally, the role requires collecting information for new surveys using various sources and performing manual labor such as bending, digging, cutting brush, and carrying equipment.

Requirements

  • Ability to plan, schedule work, and complete work within established budgets and deadlines
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Computer knowledge and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and various types of physical environments
  • High school diploma or equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Associates degree or higher
  • Certified Survey Technician
  • 2+ years related experience

Responsibilities

  • Set up, adjust, and operate surveying equipment and instruments to collect field data, reporting data back to surveyors and other Wightman professionals

  • Maintain equipment and vehicles
  • Assist in conducting surveys to determine location of natural features and man-made structures on the surface, underground or underwater
  • Collect information needed to carry out new surveys using source maps, previous survey data, photographs, computer records and other relevant information
  • Perform manual labor such as bending, digging with a hand shovel, cutting brush for lines, carrying equipment, stakes, rebar and other items that may be heavy (5-50 lbs)
