About The Position

Bohannan Huston is seeking an experienced Survey Field Technician to support surveying and geomatics projects through independent field data collection and execution of survey tasks. This role requires strong technical proficiency, sound judgment in the field, and the ability to operate with minimal supervision. The Survey Field Technician will independently perform fieldwork in coordination with a Survey Crew Chief or Project Manager.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 3 to 6+ years of progressive experience in land surveying or related fieldwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently operate survey equipment and execute field assignments with minimal oversight.
  • Strong understanding of surveying field procedures and construction staking practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans and survey instructions.
  • Proven ability to work independently while maintaining accuracy and quality standards.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving capability in the field.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with RTK GPS, robotic total stations, and electronic data collection systems.
  • Current FAA Part 107 Pilot license.
  • Familiarity with survey data workflows and coordination with office processing teams.
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification or equivalent safety training.
  • Experience working with engineers, contractors, and project teams in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Independently perform field data collection for topographic surveys, construction staking, and as-built surveys.
  • Operate survey equipment such as GPS units, total stations, data collectors, and digital levels with minimal supervision.
  • Execute staking and layout based on provided plans, control, and instructions prepared under licensed surveyor direction.
  • Locate and document existing features, utilities, and site conditions with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Collect and verify field data to support boundary surveys, without performing boundary determinations.
  • Maintain clear, accurate, and complete digital records and field notes.
  • Identify discrepancies in the field and communicate issues to the Survey Crew Chief or Project Manager for direction.
  • Troubleshoot equipment and resolve routine field issues independently.
  • Maintain, calibrate, and manage survey equipment and supplies.
  • Coordinate daily field activities, including site access and readiness.
  • Adhere to safety standards and proactively identify and mitigate field risks.
  • Travel to project sites, including remote or challenging terrain as required.
