About The Position

At the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, we deliver reliable water to a region with 19 million people. This Survey and Mapping Technician II position is an intermediate-level role focused on performing land surveying duties, primarily in the field. The role reports to the Weymouth Water Treatment Plant in La Verne, CA, and involves performing various types of field surveys within Metropolitan’s service area. As a Survey and Mapping Technician II, you will work alongside senior staff to assist and support surveyors in measuring pipelines, facilities, and properties.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or certificate of high school equivalency (HSEC) and four years of progressively increasing responsibility work experience in field and/or office survey work; OR Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and two years of relevant experience; OR two years in an MWD Survey and Mapping Technician I classification.
  • Relevant experience is defined as: general experience supporting field surveying or mapping work, which includes using survey equipment or software, and performing survey-related calculations.
  • Valid California Class C Driver’s License or equivalent (required at time of application) that allows you to drive during your employment.
  • Applicants for employment with The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California must have work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (i.e., H1-B or other employment-based immigration case).

Responsibilities

  • Assists with Field Surveys: Collaborating with senior survey staff on diverse projects.
  • Assists with Diverse Projects: Supporting topographic, construction, and pipeline surveys.
  • Assists with Precision Staking: Supporting right-of-way and pipeline staking tasks.
  • Assists with Advanced Tech: Utilizing 3D laser scanning and modern survey equipment.
  • Assists with Math Fundamentals: Using geometry and trigonometry to make precise measurements.
  • Assists with Survey Data Analysis: Interpreting field results and processing project measurements.
  • Assists with Project Team Support: Supporting senior personnel through all phases of surveying.
