About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting with the movement, setup, breakdown, and storage of University surplus items, and campus events. This position must provide a consistently high level of customer service and possess strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships with university customers across all levels. The Surplus and Events Technician is a highly collaborative customer-focused member of the Facilities Services Team, working under general supervision.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with one-year related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in the English language sufficient to perform the duties of the position.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills to maintain effective working relationships with university customers across all levels.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Must be flexible and adaptable to work as part of an integrated team to achieve goals and objectives.
  • Must be able to meet requirements of the University's automobile insurance, must have a valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Basic understanding and knowledge of techniques, tools, and equipment, as well as all required safety precautions.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with the potential of overtime including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint), Google Drive, Google Calendar, and any web browser.
  • Ability to effectively utilize computer software and systems to communicate, monitor, interface, and troubleshoot systems as required.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to drive and safely operate heavy equipment such as box trucks, pick-up trucks, forklifts, boom lifts, and loaders.
  • Familiarity with generators and light towers.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with surplus management including the collection, transportation, and delivery of University surplus goods as needed.
  • Assist with moving furniture/equipment needed for faculty and staff work location changes as well as resetting room furniture in residence halls as needed.
  • Temporarily relocating furniture, and other campus equipment for events.
  • Assist in the delivery, setup, breakdown, movement, and storage of event-related supplies and equipment for indoor and outdoor events, both on and off Reynolda campus such as: Trash and recycling cans, power cords, cable covers, event-specific supplies, tables, chairs, podiums, stages, stanchions, signs, coat racks, flooring, stairs, and other requested equipment.
  • Operate material handling equipment, including pallet jacks, dollies, carts, and other moving equipment.
  • Operate large box trucks, standard-size trucks, and gas-operated ‘golf-cart’ vehicles.
  • Staff, organize and assist during open surplus hours each week.
  • Complete assigned work via the work order system, inputting hours, and notes as needed.
  • Clean and maintain workspaces and warehouse facilities including sweeping, mopping, dusting, trash removal, bathroom upkeep, and other general maintenance as assigned.
  • Follows all University and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Reports any safety concerns to the appropriate Supervisor and the Director of Environmental Health and Safety if necessary.

  • Responsible for keeping work vehicles clean and in good operating condition.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Update work orders with hours and notes promptly via Asset Essentials and tablet.
