About The Position

NorthWest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) is seeking a full-time Surgical Technology Program Director/Faculty member. This role involves teaching, mentoring, and active participation in the college and community. The position also serves as the Program Director for the Surgical Technology program, with some teaching duties released for administrative responsibilities. Program Director duties include curriculum development, faculty supervision, program accreditation, and ensuring compliance with standards. The Director collaborates with faculty, staff, and industry partners, oversees student recruitment and retention, guides clinical placements, and maintains program effectiveness through evaluation and improvement. Administrative release time is subject to Dean approval and college policies, and may change as the program grows. Faculty members are expected to facilitate student learning, provide effective instruction, and perform evaluations. The standard teaching load is 15 load hours per semester, with potential for 12-month appointments and summer teaching. Faculty may have reduced instructional loads for administrative or service duties. This role requires developing course curriculum, participating in program-level learning assessment, and working with colleagues on program standards and policies. It also involves scheduling, supervising, and evaluating students in clinical settings, being available to students, assigning grades, maintaining records, and meeting scheduled responsibilities. Teaching may occur at other facilities or during evenings/weekends. Tutoring services are also expected. Faculty must attend departmental, divisional, and college-wide meetings. Professional development includes participating in faculty evaluations, staying current in the discipline (including licensure/certification), receiving training in technology/pedagogy, and participating in college professional development activities. Service to the college includes serving on committees, advisory boards, hiring committees, or faculty senate, attending relevant meetings, mentoring new faculty, serving as a liaison for Early College Experience faculty, attending ceremonies, and performing other academically related duties. Promoting the college, programs, and students through community activities is also part of service, provided no additional stipend or release time is received. Other duties may be assigned based on program requirements and accrediting bodies.

Requirements

Bachelors degree and Surgical Technologist Certification
Have documented education or experience in instructional methodology, curriculum design and program planning
Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency
Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
Have a minimum total of five years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past ten years.

Responsibilities

Facilitate student learning, provide effective instruction, and perform evaluations of student learning for all assigned classes.
Develop course curriculum, course handouts, lectures, labs, and presentations.
Participate in program level learning assessment.
Work with other faculty and administrators in developing program curriculum, standards, and policies.
Schedule, supervise, debrief, and evaluate students in clinical, internship, observation, field experience, and similar settings.
Be available to meet with students.
Assign grades, maintain course/student records in accordance with FERPA regulations, and submit grades and records by established deadlines.
Meet all classes and other scheduled responsibilities, such as office hours and meetings at the designated times.
Teach courses by alternative delivery methods as needed.
Tutor at facilities in both Benton and Washington Counties.
Attend departmental, divisional, and college-wide meetings.
Participate in faculty evaluation process.
Remain current in academic or program discipline, including attending professional conferences and maintaining licensure, certification, or continuing education requirements where appropriate.
Receive training or stay current in technological or pedagogical advances that promote student learning.
Participate in college professional development activities.
Serve on standing and ad hoc committees, programmatic advisory boards, hiring committees, or faculty senate.
Attend local, regional, state, or national meetings where required or necessary for the discipline.
Mentor and/or assist in orienting new faculty either formally or informally.
Serve as a liaison for Early College Experience faculty.
Attend commencement or other ceremonies appropriate to the faculty member's discipline or program.
Perform other academically related duties as assigned by the instructor's supervisor.
Participate in faculty business meetings and forums.
Participate in community and other educational activities outside of the college to promote and market the college, programs, and/or students and graduates.
Oversee the recruitment and retention of students.
Guide clinical placement partnerships.
Maintain program effectiveness through ongoing evaluation and improvement.
Curriculum development, faculty supervision, program accreditation, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
