About The Position

South College is seeking a Full-time Faculty Member for Surgical Technology. This role involves providing didactic, clinical, and lab instruction. The primary responsibility is to deliver quality instruction within the approved academic program curriculum. The faculty member will also assist in curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation, including student learning outcomes. Participation in student advising, institution/school/department committees, and scholarship/service activities is expected. The role may involve mentoring new faculty and assisting the Program Director with accreditation compliance, including self-studies and on-site visits. The faculty member will develop academic lectures, labs, and learning experiences, grade assignments promptly, and ensure student achievement of course objectives. Adherence to approved course outlines and textbooks is required, along with timely completion and submission of student documentation (e.g., clinical evaluations, competency documentation). Official grades must be submitted at the end of each term. The faculty member will assist with curricular and policy changes as requested and continuously improve their knowledge of classroom and course technology, including mandatory Canvas training. Attendance at faculty meetings, advisory board meetings, and graduation ceremonies is required. Effective retention policies must be implemented to minimize attrition. Participation in annual planning processes, data collection, assessment, and evaluation, including improvement plans, is necessary. Approved professional development activities (minimum of 2 per year for full-time faculty) and participation in an annual School/Department community service project are also expected. Scholarly activities such as research, publications, presentations, peer-review, and institution projects are to be completed as appropriate. Adherence to all institutional and School/Department policies is mandatory. Other duties as assigned by leadership are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • A minimum of an earned bachelor’s degree.
  • Be a graduate of an education program in surgical technology accredited by a nationally recognized programmatic accreditation agency.
  • Possess a credential in the field of surgical technology through a national certification program that is accredited by the National Commission on Certifying Agencies (NCCA).
  • Have a minimum total of two years of experience, either in the operating room scrub role or as an instructor in surgical technology, or a combination of both, within the past five years.
  • Strong communication and technology skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide didactic, clinical and lab instruction in Surgical Technology.
  • Provide quality instruction in each assigned course within the approved academic program curriculum.
  • Provide assistance in the development, implementation, and continuous evaluation of the curriculum, including sequence of courses and student learning outcomes.
  • Participate in the student advising process.
  • Participate as appropriate in institution/school/department committees.
  • Plan and participate in scholarship and service activities.
  • Assist with the orientation and mentoring of a new faculty member.
  • Assist the Program Director in the continuous review of and compliance with applicable accrediting, federal, and state standards and participate in associated activities.
  • Develop appropriate academic lectures, labs, and other learning experiences that allow all students to achieve course objectives.
  • Grade assignments in a timely manner to provide feedback to students.
  • Ensure determination of student achievement of course objectives through planned evaluation criteria.
  • Follow approved course outlines and textbooks for each course.
  • Ensure that all academic program requirements and forms of documentation are completed as required for each student and submitted per established deadlines.
  • Submit official grades at the end of each term for each course taught.
  • Assist with the development of curricular and policy changes as requested.
  • Continually seek to improve knowledge and usage of classroom and course technology.
  • Attend and participate in all general and School/Department faculty meetings, advisory board meetings, and graduation ceremonies.
  • Implement effective retention policies to minimize attrition.
  • Participate in the institution’s annual planning processes and in the School/Department planning activities.
